Twitpress

Twitpress is no longer in development. If it’s not what you need, take a look at some of the projects mentioned in the comments below, TwitCategory in particular looks good.

Twitpress is a really simple WordPress plugin that does one thing: Every time you publish a post on your blog, it tweets an update to your twitter account. This lets you notify all five of your twitter followers that you’ve posted a new blog entry immediately! You can format the message and optionally include a link to the blog posting to minimise the navigational pain for your devoted fans.

Twitpress can be downloaded from the wordpress codex.

Hello, I was wondering if there was a simple way to include a post’s category in a tweet using something like [category]? Any help would be appreciated.

Anyway to shorten the URL using tinyurl instead of the original?

  4. Sheridan and Jan,

I wanted something similar and started a fork called TwitCategory:

Thomas – I can’t thank you enough for creating this plugin (and releasing it GPL). TwitCategory add the following minor functionality:

    1) You can select which category results in a tweet. “All categories” is set by default and will work just like Twitpress.

    2) [permalink] really show the permalink (not guid).

    3) Added [guid] since this is often shorter then the permalink.

    4) Added [category] which displays the Category name in the tweet. Right now, it only shows the single category selected, but it could be easily modified to show all other categories as well. If anyone is interested – contact me, or start at line 300.

Great plugin I’ve been using for sometime.

I’ve found a problem with how the database is setup and was hoping you could provide a plugin update.

I think because the plugin creates a table “twitpress”, there’s a conflict when wordpress blogs in the same database use the plugin. I get the message “Call to undefined function get_twitter_msg()” where the tweet should appear in my second blog.

Each blog has a prefix, but twitpress ignores this, which makes it unusable when wordpress blogs in the same database use the plugin.
